What is the Union doing for you?
The people in the DCF Office are often asked the questions: "What
is the Union doing for me?" and "Why should I join the DCF?"
In an attempt to answer these questions, take a look at a typical
week for the people in our office:
- We represent members in evaluation and performance meetings
- We observe classroom teachers and provide feedback
- We sit on district committees (Insurance, EPR, GIB, Policy
Council, DAC, Calendar, etc.)
- We make site/school visits several times a week
- We head Staff Development, which includes:
- Facilitation of lesson studies
- Training of trainers
- Coordinating and teaching ER&D classes
- We sit on negotiations for both certified and classified
employees
- We sit on the DCF Executive Board
- We sit on the AFT Colorado Executive Board
- We sit on the AFL-CIO Executive Board
- We recruit new members
- We sit on the PERA Coalition and testify on behalf of our
members
- We testify about educational issues that impact our members
- We are currently creating committees around community
involvement and privatization issues
- We coordinate and lobby for Bond/Budget Elections
- We take part in school board elections
- We attend all School Board Meetings and keep our members up
to date on the meetings
- We answer numerous phone calls and emails from members
concerning working conditions, contract language, evaluation
process, etc.
- We maintain communication with all buildings/sites through
our building representatives
- We advocate for members and all employees on a daily basis
with regards to job responsibilities, contract language, and the
potential impacts of the budget shortfall
