What is the Union doing for you?

The people in the DCF Office are often asked the questions: "What is the Union doing for me?" and "Why should I join the DCF?"

In an attempt to answer these questions, take a look at a typical week for the people in our office:

  • We make site/school visits several times a week
  • We head Staff Development, which includes:
    • Facilitation of lesson studies
    • Training of trainers
    • Coordinating and teaching ER&D classes
  • We sit on negotiations for both certified and classified employees
  • We sit on the DCF Executive Board
  • We sit on the AFT Colorado Executive Board
  • We sit on the AFL-CIO Executive Board
  • We recruit new members
  • We sit on the PERA Coalition and testify on behalf of our members
  • We testify about educational issues that impact our members
  • We are currently creating committees around community involvement and privatization issues
  • We coordinate and lobby for Bond/Budget Elections
  • We take part in school board elections
  • We attend all School Board Meetings and keep our members up to date on the meetings
  • We answer numerous phone calls and emails from members concerning working conditions, contract language, evaluation process, etc.
  • We maintain communication with all buildings/sites through our building representatives
